Don’t neglect safety gear.
Don’t take the chance of skipping safety equipment even if the tree you’re cutting isn’t particularly large, like a Christmas tree. Even though there’s a good possibility you won’t encounter any issues, safety should always come first. You should put on sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots. Shirt with long sleeves and pants (For the best protection, opt for chainsaw-safe clothing.). Wear a logger or hard hat to protect your head from flying debris. Glasses that completely enclose your eyes. Gloves for a secure grip and noise-canceling earplugs or earmuffs.
Choose the right equipment.
While an ax can be used safely to cut down a very tiny tree or sapling, the ideal tool for most trees larger than that is a chainsaw. For small to medium trees, a 16 to 18-inch bar works best; for larger trees, or for splitting up a huge tree that has already been felled for fuel, a 20 to 24-inch bar works best. Remember that heavier chainsaws might cause arm and shoulder fatigue because of their greater weight. The average weight of a chainsaw is between 10 and 15 pounds, however, some of the heaviest models can weigh more than 20 pounds.
